BEARCAT FOOTBALL OUTLASTS LIGHTNING AND SPARTANS:

Mother Nature nor Lincoln East would hold back the Kearney Bearcat Football team from a season opening victory late Friday night as the Bearcats rallied for a 21 point third quarter to move past the Spartans in the season opener, claiming a 41-28 victory.

The Bearcats (1-0) head to Fremont next Friday. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 PM with KGFW’s live pregame starting at 6:30 PM.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS SEASON OPENER:

The Nebraska volleyball team opened the season with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of Utah State in front of 8,436 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night, the first day of the Ameritas Players Challenge. 

The fifth-ranked Huskers hit .286 and held Utah State to .061, thanks in part to 11 blocks. 

The Huskers continue the Ameritas Players Challenge today at 5 p.m. against Lipscomb. SMU will play Utah State at 2 p.m.
