VOLLEYBALL DAY IN NEBRASKA TAKES CENTER STAGE AT MEMORIAL STADIUM:

After a six-month wait, Volleyball Day in Nebraska is finally here. The fourth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team will play in front of one of the largest crowds all-time for a women’s sporting event when it hosts Omaha tonight at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

To begin the day, UNK will play Wayne State in an exhibition at 4:30 p.m. Memorial Stadium gates will open at 3:30 p.m.

Nebraska’s match can be heard on 1340 KGFW with John Baylor on the call from the Huskers Radio Network. Pregame begins at 6 PM.

Cook added that the benches are also located further away than on a normal court, which will add another layer to the match.

UNK did practice outdoors yesterday in preparation for the event beginning at 4:30 PM this afternoon.

 

TOP FIVE CONCORDIA TAKES DOWN BRONCOS AT LYNN FARRELL ARENA:

While NAIA teams are not competing in Wednesday’s ‘Volleyball Day in Nebraska,’ there was no shortage of in-state talent Tuesday night in Hastings during a top-25 showdown between Hastings College and Concordia.

Both teams split the first two sets, but Concordia rolled from there in a 3-1 win.

Hastings College now awaits their matchup in the Labor Day Classic in Olathe, KS on Thursday.

 

KEARNEY CATHOLIC GIRLS GOLF INVITE RESULTS:

The Kearney Catholic Girls Golf team hosted their home invite today, as Broken Bow took control and won the meet by eighty strokes.

Broken Bow ended up atop the leaderboard with five golfers in the top seven, and finished at a team total of 339 with second place GICC at 419.

Gilbert had not yet received a waiver transfer from the NCAA after transferring from Georgia this past offseason – he had previously transferred from LSU after his freshman season.

TOMINAGA, JAPAN DROP FIBA MATCH UP TO AUSTRALIA:

Keisei Tominaga finished with eight points, three rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action, as Japan lost to Australia, 109-89, Wednesday morning at the FIBA World Cup in Okinawa.

Australia, ranked third in the world in the FIBA rankings, shot 52 percent from the field and enjoyed a 44-33 advantage on the boards to join Germany in advancing from Group E.

Tominaga averaged 10.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.3 assists per game in Japan’s three group games.
