GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island community is set to join the nationwide celebration of “Welcoming Week” from September 8th to 17th, as Grand Island and Welcoming America team up with local organizations to foster cross-cultural connections and celebrate our diverse community.
The festivities aim to bring neighbors together and encourage connection, ultimately building a stronger and more inclusive community for all.
Welcoming Week is an initiative that emphasizes the importance of embracing cultural diversity and creating an atmosphere of acceptance. Grand Island’s participation in this nationwide event underlines the community’s commitment to building bridges across cultures and promoting mutual understanding.
Grand Island Welcoming Week Highlights:
Throughout the Welcoming Week, the Grand Island community will host a series of vibrant and engaging events at different locations. These events are free and open to everyone, offering opportunities for residents of all backgrounds to come together and experience the rich tapestry of cultures that make up Grand Island.
For an added bonus, individuals who participate in 2 or more events will be entered into a drawing for a prize! Grab an event passport at the Habitat for Humanity office, 502 W 2nd St or the Heartland United Way office, 1441 N Webb Rd and start collecting stamps.
Event Highlights: Guest speaker Dr. Laura Munoz at Stuhr Museum, Multilingual Story time at the Grand Island Public Library, Small Business tours along 4th Street, Board Training opportunity with Leadership Unlimited, Heartland United Way and the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation, Leaders Like Us LIVE with Elevate Grand Island a leadership program for New Americans with Leadership Unlimited, Murals and Music with the Mural Project and Rock the Block with Habitat for Humanity.
These events are hosted by members of the Grand Island Welcoming Initiative. The Grand Island Welcoming Initiative is a community-driven initiative dedicated to fostering cross-cultural understanding, celebrating diversity, and building a more inclusive society for all residents of Grand Island. By embracing diversity and celebrating various cultures, Grand Island aims to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
