Grand Island – The Kearney Bearcat JV got 2nd place at the Grand Island JV invite Saturday, September 9, at Veterans Park in Grand Island.
The Bearcats won game one 10-9 over Grand Island. Zailey Wilson earned the win. Kinleigh Coffman led the team with 2 hits. Anna Brandt had 3 RBI.
In game two, Kearney beat the Columbus Discoverers 5-0. Joselyn Strickland allowed 5 hits in a six inning shutout. Catcher, Emily Drackley, let the hitters with 2 hits and 3 RBI.
In the championship game, the Bearcats faced the Millard West Wildcats. The Bearcats had a 9-3 lead going into the bottom of the 4th but could not shut down the Wildcat offense allowing 7 runs to win the tournament. Coffman, Brandt and Wilson each had two hits. Brandt had 3 RBI. Two came on a home run in the top of the 4th.
After the tournament, the Kearney JV is now 9-10 on the season with 7 games scheduled for this upcoming week.
The Bearcats travel to Norfolk on Tuesday, September 12, to play the Panthers at Ta-Ha Zouka park at 5pm.
