In one of the final non-district battles of the season for Kearney Catholic, the Stars offense built a comfortable lead in the first half for a 24-6 victory over Milford.

The Stars improve to 3-1, going into their district opener next week at Amherst next week.

Both teams ate clock in the first quarter, with a botched field goal snap keeping Kearney Catholic off the board early, but the Stars would score by the end of the quarter.

After Milford punted on their first drive, Brant Christner had the Stars rolling, but would be intercepted. That didn’t matter, as the ball was fumbled quickly after and the Stars would recover. Pete Homan would quickly regain the Stars offensive confidence with a long run into the endzone, and an 8yd pass from Christner to Isaiah Gaunt would give Kearney Catholic the lead.

Kearney Catholic would add to their lead, with Christner punching in from a yard out with nine minutes to go. Weins would also bag a field goal to push the lead to three scores.

Milford would connect on a pass from Landon Roth to Isaac Roth right before halftime, but the 2 point pass would be no good.

The second half was an absolute mirror opposite of the first half, with the defenses dominating. Neither team would be able to make positive momentum on the gorund, and multiple team was forced to three-and-out throughout the second half.

Kearney Catholic would break through in the fourth quarter with Christner’s second rushing touchdown, with a 13 yard quarterback keeper to the house at the seven minute mark. The Stars would seal the deal with a Carson Murphy interception with three minutes to go.

Kearney Catholic starts a pivotal stretch next week with a Thursday night game at Amherst, who defeated Doniphan-Trumbull tonight; 42-20.
