A California woman was sentenced for transporting drugs through York County.
In federal court, Imelda Ambriz, 35, was sentenced to 54 months’ imprisonment for transporting cocaine. Following her sentence, Ambriz will serve a three-year term of supervised release.
In September 2022, a trooper patrolling I-80 near mile marker 349 observed an eastbound white SUV travelling to closely to another vehicle. The SUV exited at mile marker 353.
A traffic stop was initiated on the SUV at a nearby truck stop in York County. The driver was identified as Imelda Ambriz. During the stop Ambriz was noted taking short rapid breaths and her entire body was shaking. During questioning the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity and requested permission to search Ambriz’s vehicle.
A search revealed 19.9 pounds of cocaine hidden in the back of the vehicle’s seats.
This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol.
