EMPORIA, KANS. – Junior forward Hadie Lowe tallied two first half goals to help Emporia State beat Nebraska Kearney, 5-0, Friday night in Kansas.
This was the non-MIAA game between the Hornets (1-3-3) and the Lopers(1-6-0); the two will meet again October 27 at Cope Stadium for the league affair. Tonight’s game was pushed back four hours and moved to Emporia High School due to field conditions with ESU’s home pitch.
The Hornets returned most of its roster from last year’s 13-6-5 squad that won two games in the NCAA Tournament. However, E-State had tallied just three goals over the first six contests this fall.
To down UNK for a 10th straight time, ESU saw Lowe score her first goal at the 10:51 mark after taking a pass from two-time All-American Mackenzie Dimarco. Less than five minutes later, Lowe recorded her third goal of the fall as she found the left corner of the Loper net.
Three different Hornets would go on to score including Dimarco. She is now up to 64 career goals and 136 career points. Finally, sophomore Abby Bachman had two assists with Dimarco (seven) and Lowe (six) the shot leaders.
For UNK, senior Cammie Davis (Wichita) and sophomore Corynne Olsen(Lincoln SE) had two shots apiece. Both of Davis efforts were on goal with two Hornet keepers combining for six saves. Five others had a shot including redshirt freshman Rachel Warrick (Lincoln SE) and junior Katie Pagel(Aurora, Colo.). Finally, keepers Susie Bovaird (Lincoln NE) and Mackenzie Smith (Lincoln H.S.) combined for six saves.
UNK starts MIAA play on Sunday at Washburn. The Ichabods (6-1) downed Fort Hays State tonight, 2-1.
