Lincoln, Nebraska – The Kearney Bearcats traveled to Doris Bair Softball Complex in Lincoln to compete in the Lincoln East invite Saturday, September 23.
They went 2-1 on the day, beating McCook 10-0, Lincoln Northeast 5-4, and losing to Omaha Marian 4-10.
In game 1 against McCook, Lauren Schmeits pitched the shutout, striking out two and giving up just 1 hit. Kennedy Lee, Schmiets, and Kami Kaskie each had 2 hits. Kaskie drove in three runs in the 10-0 win.
In game 2, Avery Longshore got the win, and Ava Magnani got a save avenging a loss from earlier in the season in a 5-4 win against Lincoln Northeast. Kaskie led the team with 2 hits. Kaskie, Oliva Wright, and Mackinzey Brennan each had an RBI.
In the last game of the night, the Marian bats were too much for the Bearcats, scoring 10 runs on 8 hits. Magnani and Emily Drackley each had 2 hits. Kaskie and Wright each drove in 2 runs in the 4-10 loss.
Kearney improved to 9-15 on the season and will finish out their regular season schedule with games at home vs Hastings on Tuesday, a make up of last Thursday’s rainout vs Grand Island on Wednesday, and in Lincoln Thursday to play Lincoln Southeast before playing the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament back in Lincoln Saturday.
Senior night was rescheduled to Tuesday, September 26 to recognize the three seniors on the team: Kami Kaskie, Shay Ellis, and Taylor Potter.
