KEARNEY — Tradehome Shoes donated 48 pairs of sneakers to Kearney Public School’s Emerson Elementary for staff to give to students in need of new footwear.
Lori McArthur, Emerson’s Social Worker, said she was contacted by Tradehome in the spring that the elementary had been selected to receive the free shoe donation.
Tradehome customers had been the ones to nominate Emerson to be the beneficiary of the donation, McArthur said.
“Knowing we were going to get these pairs of Under Armor shoes was just amazing,” McArthur said, “We certainly have students who could use them.”
When asked how the shoes would be distributed. McArthur said they will work with the parents if there is a need. She noted that there is a higher need at the start of the school year.
McArthur said school staff monitor throughout the year who has a need for new shoes.
“We are just so excited and very thankful to have Tradehome’s partnership,” said McArthur.
Jason Wasmund, Manager of the Tradehome location at the Hilltop Mall said for the past three years the company has worked to donate shoes to those in need.
Last year, Tradehome noted that it traded 7,000 pairs of shoes and over 63,000 pairs of socks.
“We encourage customers to nominate a school where the shoes will be donated. At the end of the year, a random drawing is held to determine the winners in each Tradehome community,” Tradehome stated.
Wasmund said that last year Tradehome made a similar donation to Central Elementary in Kearney.
“It’s just awesome to be part of a store, a company that gives back to the community,” Wasmund concluded.
