KEARNEY — CHI Health Good Samaritan in partnership with Safe Kids Platte Valley, Kearney Police Department and Kearney Public Schools is hosting a Child Safety Seat Check from 1 until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Midway Chevrolet Buick GMC located at 515 2nd Ave E, Kearney.
The free event is by appointment, only. Children must be present for the fitting. Expectant parents are also encouraged to attend.
The team of certified child passenger safety technicians and other specially-trained volunteers will inspect each safety seat to make sure it fits the child properly, is correctly secured, and is in the safest possible location in the vehicle.
Scheduled for the second Tuesday each month, future Child Safety Seat Checks will take place on Nov. 14, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9.
If needed, a limited number of seats will be available for purchase at the event. Call 308-865-2011 to make an appointment.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages birth to 13. Correctly used child safety seats can reduce that risk by as much as 71 percent. However, three out of four car seats are not used or installed correctly.
CHI Health St. Francis also hosts a free Child Safety Seat Check from 10 a.m. until noon on the first Wednesday of the month at Fire Station No. 1, located at 409 E. Fonner Park Rd. in Grand Island.
