HUSKER VOLLEYBALL EARNS TRIO OF HONORS FROM CONFERENCE:
A trio of Nebraska volleyball student-athletes received weekly Big Ten honors on Monday.
Merritt Beason was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Bergen Reilly was named co-Big Ten Setter of the Week for the second week in a row.
Finally, Harper Murray was selected as Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third time.
Beason, Reilly and Murray played key roles in leading the Huskers to a 3-2 road win at No. 17 Purdue on Friday and a 3-1 road win at Indiana on Saturday.
STARCOS SOFTBALL FALLS IN SUB-DISTRICT FINAL:
The B-9 Sub District softball final came between McCook and Kearney Catholic/Amherst for the chance to earn a ticket to a District Final this weekend.
McCook handled HWY 6 in their first round contest at Patriot Park, while the Starcos finished off Lexington.
The Starcos could not contain the McCook bats, however, falling in the championship game 13-1.
Kearney Catholic/Amherst ends the season at 14-11.
BEARCAT GIRLS GOLF EARNS CHAMPIONSHIP BID; RUNNER-UP IN A-3 DISTRICT:
The Kearney girls golf team withstood the wind to earn a runner-up finish at the Awarii Dunes golf course on Monday afternoon, shooting a team total of 375 and earning a bid to the Class A state championships next week.
The Bearcats ended with three teammates in the Top Ten, as Addi Peterson shot a 90, Lauren Lydiatt had a 92, and Morgan Dowhy ended with a 95 to finish seventh, ninth, and tenth respectively.
The Bearcats fell behind Omaha Marian, shooting a team total of 329 and taking the A-3 District Championship. North Platte was third with 383. All three teams qualify for the State Championships next week at Grand Island’s Riverside Golf Course.

NEBRASKA LOSES DEFENSIVE BACK TO PORTAL:
One of Nebraska’s reserve defenders has decided to move on.
Junior defensive back Javier Morton will be entering the transfer portal, he announced via social media Monday night.
The second-year Husker was mainly a special teams contributor in 2022 but saw 10 snaps on defense over the course of the season. Morton had continued in that special teams role again this year but was no closer to cracking the rotation on defense.

BEARCAT SOFTBALL PLACED IN A-6 DISTRICT:
The Kearney High School Softball program will head to the Metro to begin their postseason play on Wednesday.
The Bearcats (13-18) wrapped up their conference tournament on Saturday, setting themselves as the third seed in the A-6 District hosted by #1 Millard West (15-9).
Kearney faces #2 Lincoln Pius X (22-11) at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The game will follow the Millard West/Omaha Burke matchup at 10 AM. The winner of each contest will face each other in the double elimination bracket.
HUSKER BASEBALL SETS RED-WHITE SERIES SCHEDULE:
The Nebraska baseball team’s annual Red-White Series will be played on Oct. 10-12, with first pitch of the series opener set for 2:30 p.m. at Hawks Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The remaining two games of next week’s series are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Each of the three scrimmages is scheduled for seven innings.
The games are open to the public with free admission.
