KEARNEY — The first frost and freeze of the season has prompted a Freeze Warning to be issued for practically all of Nebraska.

The area will be under high pressure, clear skies and lighter winds tonight and temperatures will fall off significantly. Lows are expected to drop below freezing across nearly the entire forecast area.

The Freeze Warning goes into effect Friday-Saturday at midnight and lasts until 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, per the National Weather Service – Hastings

Frost is likely almost everywhere across the NWS Hastings area, with the only caveat being if the air is too dry in some places.

Freezing temperatures of 29 to 32 degrees will be likely across most of the area and a possible hard killing freeze, 28 degrees or lower, is most favored north and west of the Tri-Cities.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.,” NWS Hastings states.

“Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing,” per NWS Hastings.
