KEARNEY – The Tri-City Storm is set to host the Eastern Conference’s Cedar Rapid RoughRiders tonight at the Viaero Center for the first time since October 20th, 2019. The Storm split back-to-back home games last weekend with the Sioux City Musketeers. Tri-City has posted a 3-1-0-0 record through the opening four games of the season entering tonight’s game. Tri-City (3-1-0-0) dropped a 4-3 decision at the Viaero Center to the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday, September 30th following a 5-2 victory over the Musketeers for the organization’s Home Opener on Friday, September 29th. Goal scorers for the Storm entering tonight’s fifth game of the season are August Fallon (4), Trevor Connelly (2), Nolan Roed, Philippe Blais-Savoie, Ryan Smith, Vladislav Lukashevich, Dallas Vieau, and Cameron Briere. The Storm has won three of the last four games played against the RoughRiders. The two teams have only faced off against each other twice in the past five seasons. The Storm’s powerplay is 3/23 (13.0%) entering tonight’s game. Tri-City’s penalty kill is 10/12 (83.3%) through the opening four games of the season. Following tonight’s game at the Viaero Center, the Storm will return to action on Sunday afternoon in a 4:05pm CT matchup against the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
Cedar Rapids (1-2-0-0) lost the team’s Home Opener at the ImOn Ice Arena Saturday, September 30th by a final score of 4-1 to the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The RoughRiders split games against the Sioux Falls Stampede and the Youngstown Phantoms at the 2023 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic to open the season. Cedar Rapids dropped a 5-2 decision against Sioux Falls, but bounced back for a 6-1 win over Youngstown the following day. Goal scorers for the RoughRiders through the opening three games of the season include Cade Littler (3), Connor Smith, Joel Kjellberg, Dominic Elliott, Riley Fitzgerald, and Isaac Johnson. The Cedar Rapids powerplay is 1/11 (9.1%) so far this season entering tonight’s road game at the Viaero Center. The RoughRiders penalty kill is currently 11/13 (84.6%) through the first three games of the season. Cedar Rapids will return to action tomorrow night following tonight’s battle against the Storm with a road matchup against the Omaha Lancers.
