LAWRENCE – A Lawrence church suffered fire damage from an early Thursday morning fire.
On Thursday Oct. 14, Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside Sacred Heart Church. Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire. The fire caused extensive floor and smoke damage. The church had been nearly done with renovations.
Lincoln Bishop James Conley said in a statement “It is so unfortunate. Their renovations were almost complete. Thanks be to God nobody was hurt, and it was discovered early in the morning and the church was saved.”
In the meantime, parishioners can attend St. Stephen in Lawrence, or Assumption in Deweese.
