GRAND ISLAND – The victim of an explosion at Hornady Manufacturing has been identified.

On Friday Oct. 13, at 9:47 a.m. an explosion occurred at Hornady Manufacturing, at the PVE West Building. Cairo Fire Department were first on the scene to respond.

According to the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency, the victim was identified as Adriana Alvarez, 32, of Grand Island. Alvarez was an employee at Hornady and died as a result of the explosion.

Two other employees also sustained injuries from the explosion. One transported themselves to the hospital and another by ambulance. Both were treated and released the same day.

The investigation found that the explosion was accidental and happened during a mixing process of the primer compound.

The State Fire Marshal says the have completed their investigation.

Assisting responding agencies include the Alda Fire Department, Wood River Fire Department, Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Grand Island Fire Department, Hall County Attorney’s Office, and Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
