Kearney Catholic wrapped up their regular season with a resounding 44-6 victory over Gibbon. The Stars finish 7-2 and are playoff bound, after missing the playoffs last year.
The Stars scoring started off in unusual fashion, with a Gibbon snap sailing over quarterback Tyler Weismann’s head. He was able to recover the ball, but was then called for intentional grounding in the endzone to start the scoring. Jake Bosshammer would tack on a 3 yard rushing touchdown to take advantage of the short field position.
The Stars would add another touchdown to end the first quarter, with Pete Homan adding a 20 yard rushing touchdown.
Gibbon would scratch the scoring plane in the second quarter, with a 6yd rushing score from Isac Tamayo. The Stars would eat up another four minutes of the clock, scoring twice in the final minutes. Bosshammer would complete a 15yd touchdown pass to Brant Christner, and would connect with Isaiah Gaunt for a 39yd score to end the half.
Christner would return to being the signal caller for the Stars in the second half, connecting with Carson Murphy for a 20yd pass for a touchdown late in the third quarter. Gibbon was able to drive the ball more in the second half, but would see their deepest drives stymied by interceptions in Stars territory.
The Stars would end the scoring with a trick play, with Bosshammer handing the ball off to Carson Murphy, and Murphy airmailing a 24 yard touchdown to Jacob Lowe for the final score.
