GERING — A Grand Island event won the 2023 Nebraska Tourism Outstanding Tourism Event award during a state conference in Gering this week.
The award, for a city population of 10,000 and above, was presented to Hear Grand Island, a 10-week series of concerts held during Fridays in the summer in the city’s Railside Plaza.
Music genres include country, rock, heavy metal, jazz and folk.
The event’s inception dates to 2016 and has grown each year and recorded an average attendance of more than 3,200 each week in 2023.
The event now includes a beer garden, food trucks and artistic events.
The gathering is open to the public and is only possible thanks to more than 7,000 volunteer hours and over 30 area businesses sponsors.
