GRAND ISLAND — A fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and Capital Avenue, just northeast of Grand Island during the morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 26.
Around 7:57 a.m., the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection for the report of a two-vehicle injury accident.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Dodge Ram driven by a 17-year-old female of Grand Island was stopped at the stop sign at Highway 30 and Capital Ave.
The Dodge attempted to turn west onto Highway 30 from Capital Ave and collided with a 2011 Peterbilt, driven by Jerry Archer, 71, of Marquette that was traveling east on Highway 30.
The 17-year-old was injured and transported by ambulance to CHI St. Francis Medical Center.
The passenger of the Dodge was identified as Roberta Tipton, 81 of Grand Island. Tipton was also transported to St. Francis and was declared deceased. Next of kin have been notified.
Both the 17-year-old and Tipton were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Archer was also injured because of the collision and transported to St. Francis. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office states that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation, which remains open.
