KEARNEY COUNTY – A multi-vehicle accident occurred in Kearney County Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office in a press release, on Tuesday at 5:37 p.m. a southbound 2012 Hyundai Sonata was traveling on Highway 44 near the intersection of Q Road when it came upon a 2012 Ford Pickup and a 2016 Honda Accord.
The Ford and Honda had slowed down for a vehicle turning eastbound onto Q Road. However, the driver of the Hyundai did not see and rear ended the Honda, which caused it to spin and cross the centerline into oncoming northbound traffic. A northbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado with a trailer then impacted the Honda’s front driver’s side.
The trailer of the Chevrolet hit the rear quarter panel of the Ford that had initially been slowing. As this was happening, the Hyundai continued southbound on Highway 44 where it impacted its front end into the rear end of the same Ford.
The sole occupant of the Hyundai was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. The driver and two passengers of the Honda were transported to the Kearney Regional Medical Center. The drivers of the Ford and Chevrolet refused medical transport.
The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident. Nebraska State Patrol, Axtell Fire and Rescue, Good Samaritan Hospital, as well as numerous good samaritan’s assisted on scene.
