It was a trip down memory lane at the Merryman Performing Arts Center on Wednesday afternoon as brothers Matthew and Gunnar Nelson took the stage to celebrate the career of their father Ricky Nelson.

From the beginning of Ricky’s career on The Ozzie and Harriet show to his return as a founding father of country rock, they told his life story through song, video clips of performances, and interviews with those in the business he had worked with and influenced.

Near the end of the show the twins announced a new project they are currently working on,  a country rock band called First Born Sons and they debuted a new song called A Thousand Wild Horses.

The show ended with an emotional tribute, with the help of a video screen, the men were able to sing on stage with their father, something they were never able to do in his lifetime as he passed tragically at the age of 45.  Many in attendance stood to sing along and embrace the moment.

Their next stop is in Iowa for a Christmas show.
