MINDEN — Two drivers were killed as the result of an accident that took place in rural Kearney County during the morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 2.

At 9:35 a.m., the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of 35 Road and K Road.

An eastbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Charles A. Tomsen, 64, of Minden and a northbound 2010 Ford Ranger driven by Cesar E. Castro, 38, of Upland, were involved.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. The next of kin have been notified.

Seatbelts were not in use in either vehicle.

The accident is being investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol, the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office.

The Minden Volunteer Fire Department and Minden Police Department provided assistance at the scene.
