Glenn Thomas, Pittsburgh Steelers

LINCOLN – The Nebraska offense will have a new leader at the most important position as Matt Rhule’s coaching staff grew on Tuesday.

Multiple reports have stated that Glenn Thomas, a former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive assistant, is set to take the quarterback coaching vacancy for the Big Red. Thomas was with Rhule on his staff at previous stints at Baylor and Temple, and was last a play-caller with the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2022. Thomas was previously a quarterbacks coach with the Atlanta Falcons prior to joining Rhule at Temple.

Thomas aided the Pittsburgh offense to a postseason berth, falling in the Super Wildcard Round to the Buffalo Bills on Monday. The Steelers were not well regarded for their offense in the first stretch of the season, as offensive coordinator Matt Canada was fired after Week 11. Pittsburgh averaged 17.9 points per game this year, a tenth of a point lower than Nebraska’s 18 in 2023.

Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield, who had previously coached the quarterbacks this past season, will move into the tight ends spot while also remaining the play caller for the Big Red.

Josh Martin, a former Husker analyst who moved into the role as tight ends coach after the resignation of Bob Wager prior to fall last season, will move back into his analyst role.
