BRADY — The driver of a semi was killed after their vehicle left the road and caught fire during the morning of Thursday, Jan. 18.

At approximately 8 a.m., Lincoln County 911 received a report of a crash on Interstate 80 east of the Brady interchange.

Upon arrival, troopers located a semi that had left the roadway, entered the median, and had come to a stop under the Platte River bridge. The semi cab was fully engulfed when first responders arrived, per the Nebraska State Patrol.

“Troopers attempted to reach the driver, but were unable to because of the large amount of smoke under the bridge. Once fire crews had extinguished the fire, the driver of the semi was located deceased. Three troopers were treated for smoke inhalation on scene by Brady EMS. As of 12:20 pm, I-80 westbound is still closed in the area as crews continue to work on scene. Detours are in place from the Gothenburg exit to the Brady interchange,” NSP stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
