GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man ingested a small amount of methamphetamine after being contacted by Grand Island police officers during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 31.
At 12:58 a.m., officers with the Grand Island Police Department responded to the Pump and Pantry location on South Locust Street for the report of a male who was passed out in his truck.
Officers contacted the male who was identified by his driver’s license Stephen Nielsen.
Officers then observed a glass methamphetamine pipe in the cupholder of the vehicle. Officers then asked Nielsen to exit his vehicle, but he refused.
Nielsen then grabbed methamphetamine near the glass pipe and then ingested it, police say.
Officers then opened the door after issuing multiple commands to exit and pulled Nielsen from the truck. He would attempt to remain in the vehicle and would make it difficult for officers to put him into handcuffs.
Nielsen was cited for possession or use of drug paraphernalia, tamper with physical evidence, resisting arrest – first offense and obstructing a peace officer.
