CAIRO — Multiple coal cars and several Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway train engines derailed near Cairo during the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 9.
Photos from the scene showed coal spilling from cars that piled up behind derailed engines.
According to Lena Kent, BSNF General Director Public Affairs, said the incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. There are no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
“BNSF personnel are on site and working as quickly and safely as possible to clear the incident,” Kent stated.
