OVERTON — “Baby One More Time,” was the theme of Overton Girls Basketball Team state send off pep rally that occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The last time the Overton Eagles appeared in the state championship was in 2005, the school took advantage of the opportunity to send the team off in style. The Eagles had punched their ticket with a 63-19 win over the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders in the Class D2-1 district final on Friday.

The theme name reflected Overton’s effort to reach the state championship, one of the players said, “third time is the charm.”

The rally started off with a unique game of musical chairs, rather than simply find an empty seat when the music stopped, the girls had to rush from the center of a court, find a basketball and make a basket before finding a chair.,

Following the event, and playing off the baby theme, the girls had to do their best to drink Gatorade the fastest, the catch was they had to do it out of a baby bottle, which proved harder than it looked.

The team then grabbed their baby pictures that had been printed out and stuck them to their chest for a group photo.

The elementary students them formed a tunnel and the team walked through giving high-fives on their way to the bus. The team bus then got an escort from the Overton Volunteer Fire Department out of town on their way to Lincoln.

Overton, (25-1) takes on Paxton (17-9) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28
