Hastings College Softball 2024 // HC Bronco Athletics
FLORDIA – The Hastings College softball team finished its road trip to Florida by going a perfect 6-0 by defeating Dallas Christian 7-4 before defeating SUNY Cobleskill 3-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Broncos jumped out to a quick start against DCC as Isabel Tanabe got things rolling with a walk followed by stealing second. Following a walk to Elana Gerhard, Tanabe would come home on the Lexie Mudloff RBI single. Then Lauren Schneider then cleared the bases with a 2 RBI triple and the 3-0 lead. The lead would then grow to 4-0 when Macie Mays plated Schneider with a sac fly to center.
The Lady Crusaders came right back with four runs of their own the second inning and the game remained tied 4-4 into the sixth. After the rough second inning, Kyleigh Boever settled in which allowed the Lady Bronco offense go back to work and eventually came through in the sixth.
Tanabe picked up a RBI single that scored Mays to give HC the lead. Then Sam Skinner ripped a 2 RBI triple to right scoring Kappler and Tanabe to give Hastings the 7-4 lead.
Boever would then sit the Crusaders down in order in the seventh as HC took the victory.
Skinner led the way going 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Schneider went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Boever gave up four runs while scattering nine hits in the win.
Game two against SUNY Cobleskill saw Angelina Lockhart have one of her best outings going 7.0 innings giving up no runs while giving up just three hits.
And with Lockhart pitching well, HC didn’t need much offense and got just enough to come away with the victory. Hastings was able to load the bases in the second and Mays was able to score on the Rayleigh Guyer fielder’s choice and the early 1-0 lead. That lead carried into the fifth when the Lady Broncos added to it.
Tanabe led the inning off with a single followed by a double from Skinner. Then Mudloff singled home Tanabe with Skinner scoring on the Schneider RBI sac fly to make it 3-0.
That would be all the run support Lockhart would need as she would also finish with four strikeouts while picking up her third win of the year.
Skinner led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 while Mudloff, Schneider and Guyer each recorded a RBI.
Hastings as now won eight straight and has improved to 12-10 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Mar. 26 hitting the road for a doubleheader against Doane to open up Great Plains Athletic Conference action with first pitch set for 2:00 pm in Crete, NE.
