Hastings Police Department (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)
HASTINGS — The Tri-City area, to include Hastings residents, are receiving phone calls from people claiming to be Law Enforcement. These callers are spoofing their numbers to look like it is a Hastings Police Departments phone number calling, but it is not.
The caller is identifying as an officer with the Hastings Police Department and informing the recipient that they have a failure to appear warrant. The caller is asking for information, to include payment over the phone.
The Hastings Police Department will never call and ask for payment of any kind. Do not give out your personal information over the phone.
If you ever receive a phone call from a law enforcement officer and wish to verify their identify, ask what their name and badge number is, disconnect and then call our non-emergency number and ask a dispatcher to speak with them.
