KEARNEY — Nebraska’s First Lady, Suzanne Pillen, visited three Kearney Public Schools (KPS) on today, May 6, 2024. This visit is part of her ongoing initiative to educate the state’s youth about the importance of Nebraska agriculture and to help them understand the origins of their food and other local resources.

The First Lady’s tour included stops at Glenwood, Meadowlark and Northeast Elementary schools, where she engaged with third grade students and shared insights into the state’s agricultural practices.

This initiative is part of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation through the Nebraska Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) program. AITC is committed to delivering relevant and accurate agricultural information to students, connecting them directly to the source of their food, fiber, and energy, and highlighting the significant role agriculture plays in their everyday lives.

During her visit, First Lady Pillen read “Right This Very Minute” a story that illustrates the value and impact of agriculture. Those interested in further details about the book can visit the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation’s official website: https://nefbfoundation.org/bushel-of-stories/.

It was an educational experience for the students, shedding light on the essential contributions of local farmers and the agricultural sector to society.
