HASTINGS — In the race to represent District 33 in the Nebraska Legislature, Dan Lonowski and Michelle Smith, both of Hastings, will advance to the general election.

Primary election results determine the top two candidates who will advance to the November general election.

District 33 is currently represented by Senator Steve Halloran, who is term limited, having been elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020.

Out of the four candidates running, Dan Lonowski claimed 3,466 votes or 39.9 percent, while Michelle Smith came in second with 2,505, or 28 percent.

The other candidates running were Paul Hamelink with 1,591 votes and Joshua Frederick with 1,116 votes.

Lonowski taught for 34 years, the last 29 in the Adams Central School District. He was the head wrestling coach and junior high football coach during his entire tenure at Adams Central; he retired last year.

Smith said she has been a small business owner in Hastings for nearly a decade, opening Sunrise Inspirations, PC in 2014. The business provides quality mental health therapy to children, adults, and families in Hastings and surrounding communities.
