KEARNEY — The Kearney Public School Board of Education will see six candidates proceed to the general election in November.

Per the unofficial results from the Buffalo County Election Commissioner, which were released during the late evening of Tuesday, May 4, board member Amy Barth came in first with 3,402 votes.

Barth filled the vacancy left by Dave Brandt, who resigned in January to take on a new role as a science teacher at Kearney High School.

She will serve the remainder of Brandt’s term, which runs until December 2024 and announced she intended to pursue election for the 2025-2029 term.

The next candidates in the race include Amanda Smallcomb with 2,729 votes; Niki Deeds, 2,689; Chad Gillespie, 2,425; Steve Gaasch, 1,706 and Casey Schilke, 1,202.

All six will advance to the general election, there are three open seats on the board.

Others running included Will Kirkland, 789 votes; Charles Kries, 657 and Jason Peck, 583.
