GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man was arrested for terroristic threats after law enforcement said he brandished a knife during a confrontation and threatened to kill another man.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, on Saturday, May 19 at 11:23 p.m., officers responded to 1st and Walnut St. in response to a disturbance where individuals were engaging in a physical assault with a knife.
Officers were informed of a male wearing a gray hood and brandishing a knife, they later made contact with the male, who was identified as Othman Mohamad. He was given loud verbal commands to walk backwards but failed to adhere.
A bystander passing by prior to law enforcement arrival had witnessed Mohamad and another male engaging in a confrontational stance as through they were preparing to fight. The bystander reported that Mohamad wielded the knife at the other male.
The other male had been confronted by Mohamad about the legitimacy of the phone he was carrying, claiming it was his own. Their conversation escalated and both were about to fight when Mohamad produced the knife and threatened to kill the other male while wielding the knife at him, according to the GIPD.
Mohamad was then placed under arrest and upon searching his person, nothing was found on him.
Mohamad would be arrested for terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and obstruct a peace officer. He would be booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
Mohamad has been arrested in the past, being accused of intimidated officers with a large stick in October 2022,
