HCT Kids invites you to attend the smart and ferociously funny musical Mean Girls JR. Beginning July 19 at the Hastings Community Theatre. Mean Girls JR. is a version of the hit musical Mean Girls that has been adapted for performance by students. Quite a bit tamer but no less funny, the musical features book by Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and music by composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and was adapted from Fey’s hit 2004 film.

Cady Heron (played by Hannah Javins) may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naive newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By joining forces with two quirky fellow outcasts, Janis Sarkisian (played by Arabella Limper) and Damian (played by Ezekiel Verhage) and taking on “The Plastics,” a trio of lionized frenemies (Karen Smith played by Stella Thomsen, Gretchen Wieners played by Gianna Rosnoe and led by the charming but ruthless Regina George played by Monroe Runcie). But when Cady falls for Regina’s ex, Aaron Samuels (played by Logan Vaspir), and devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

“Mean Girls JR is a totally ‘fetch’ musical that will have you laughing and cheering throughout. The songs are upbeat, memorable and empowering. Reminding those of us no longer in High School of the highs and lows of this rite of passage in all of our lives. And for those currently navigating the tumultuous high school journey, there is comfort in seeing we all know what it’s like to want to fit in, to want to be liked, and ultimately we all belong somewhere!” says Morwenna Limper, HCT board member and director of Mean Girls JR. “We hope you’ll come out and support this cast of talented youth from all over the tri-cities. You don’t want to miss these kids and their “mad squillz,” she adds.
