KEARNEY — The Kearney Planning Commission received a report from the City of Kearney regarding the 2024-2025 Capital Improvement Program and the projects included during their meeting on Friday, Aug. 16.
Kayla James, Director of Finance, appeared before the planning commission with the capital improvements related to paving, water and sewer in the 2024-2025 proposed budget.
The budget included the following items:
Street Improvement
- Miscellaneous paving districts – $500,000
- Rolling Hills streets – $200,000
Special Sales Tax – Capital Improvements/Equipment
- Asphalt street replacement projects – $380,000
- Miscellaneous street improvements – $370,000
- 30th Ave. overpass repairs – $1,770,000
- Highway 30 and University Dr. – $3,256,580
- Cottomill Road asphalt improvements – $252,792
Sanitary Sewer
- Miscellaneous sewer districts – $500,000
- Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase II – $5,000,000
Water
- Miscellaneous water districts – $400,000
- Lead service line replacement projects – $495,000
Kearney Regional Airport
- Aircraft parking apron rehab – $5,947,002
- Rehab asphalt parking lot – $80,000
The other item on the agenda was a preliminary plat and final plat concerning the Northwestern Energy First Addition, for a property located a half mile south of the intersection of West 78th St. and 17th Ave. on the west side of the road.
Douglas Stevenson appeared on behalf of the property owners, Keith and Janice Kuebler.
Stevenson said NorthWestern Energy is looking to add a regulator station at the site that will be serviced by a gas line that will be added this week.
The city staff recommended approval of the preliminary plat and final plat and the planning commission voted their approval.
