GRAND ISLAND – Youth enter a wide variety of 4-H projects at the Nebraska State Fair.
The projects are exhibited at the 4-H/FFA Building at the State Fair, which is the building that doubles as the Grand Island City Fieldhouse when the State Fair is not occurring.
Categories include many areas such as clothing, foods, photography, livestock, agronomy, home environment, entomology, horticulture, conservation and wildlife, and visual arts.
Molly Brandt is an Extension Educator in Lincoln.
“Each county receives of quota“ of the number of exhibits that can be submitted from the county each year.
“These projects received purple or higher ribbons at their county fairs,” she said. “There’s a large diversity in all of the areas we have. They represent the interests that our 4-H members have.”
Judging of the entries occurred on Aug. 21, she said.
She encourages people to come and look at the 4-H entries. They might get ideas for projects they can do for their homes, she said.
According to the website www.4h.unl.edu, more than 140,000 youth across Nebraska participate in 4-H. Organized clubs are for youth ages 8 to 18. 4-H clubs may occur in setting including community clubs and afterschool clubs.
