The Hargis House in Grand Island, (Carol Bryant, Central Nebraska Today)
GRAND ISLAND – Green siding will be installed on Hargis House, said Sherry Moore, president of the Grand Island Woman’s Club.
Compass Roofing is installing the siding. Compass Roofing installed new shingles on the roof at no charge, but the Woman’s Club is raising funds to pay for the siding and installation. Compass Roofing submitted the lowest bid for the siding project.
Work on the house will start around Oct. 1, Moore said.
The Hargis House was originally green, she said.
The Woman’s Club has made a down payment of $50,000 for the project. The group needs to raise another $50,000. The Woman’s Club is applying for grants for the project.
‘We’re hoping to get citizens from Grand Island and the surrounding area to donate,” she said.
The house was constructed in 1898 for Andrew Hargis.
Donations may be mailed to Hargis House, 1109 W. Second St., Grand Island, NE 68801. Moore said there is a locked mailbox for the house. She said that the Woman’s Club is a 501 (c)3 organization.
“We’ve been doing a lot of fundraisers,” she said.
The group has a Facebook page. It is titled, “The Hargis House of Grand Island.”
