The scene of the fire near Minden, (Corbey Dorsey, Central Nebraska Today)

MINDEN — A large fire occurred on the west side of Minden during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, Oct. 2.

During the mid-afternoon, a fire broke out near Highway 6 and 34. Photos from the scene show a large wall of black smoke emanating from a property around a half mile west of Pioneer Village, according to reports from the scene.

Witnesses say that outbuildings and old vehicles appear to have burned in the fire, with the flames spreading to a nearby field. A portion of the highway was shut down.

Several area fire departments including Minden, Hildreth, Axtell and Wilcox responded to the scene.
