Kinkaiders' Grand Island location, (Carol Bryant, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — After announcing the closure of their Grand Island location, Kinkaider Brewing Company announced plans to open a site in Kearney.

Co-owner Cody Schmick in a video said that Kinkaider will be celebrating 10 years of operation after first opening in Broken Bow.

He said the second location opened was the Grand Island location, they later expanded to Lincoln and Omaha.

Schmick said the Grand Island location has been open since 2018 and said it was a difficult decision to close the site. “We are not writing off Grand Island by any means,” he said.

Per Nebraska state law, breweries can only have five satellite locations and Schmick said they have been maxed out. In order to open a new location, one has to be shut down.

Schmick said that Grand Island was their lowest preforming location, hence the decision.

The new location, which will be built from the ground up, will be opened in Kearney. “We have been looking at Kearney for a number of years,” Schmick said.

The new location will be on the Younes campus, right off Interstate 80.

“This is going to be a new model for us, it will be a Kinkaider, Bierhaus side by side,” Schmick said.

The plan is to open in 2025.
