GRAND ISLAND — With rising demand for food assistance, Hope Harbor urgently calls on the community to help restock its critically low food pantries. The shortages are impacting both the shelter residents and community members who rely on the Community Assistance food pantry.

With their shelters consistently at or above 80% capacity, the resources needed to support the Transitional Shelter residents have been stretched beyond their current capabilities, dipping into their tight budget. From January to September, Hope Harbor distributed over 2,800 food boxes.

“In years past, I would reach out to our community via our social media platforms to let them know we had food boxes available,” explains Marketing Coordinator, Jennifer Figueroa. “Only recently, I’ve had to reach out to the community with an urgent plea for donations to meet the needs of those we serve. The demand is undeniable, and the need is immediate.”

Hope Harbor is asking the community to help them provide food security by donating non-expired, unopened food pantry items such as:

• Cereal
• Pasta and pasta sauce
• Canned fruit
• Canned meat
• Canned vegetables
• Canned soup and broths
• Beans
• Rice
• Crackers
• Applesauce
• Peanut butter and jam/jelly
• Bread
• Oatmeal, pancake mix, and syrup
• Meal kits/Prepackaged meals
• Powdered milk

Every donation makes a tangible difference for their shelter residents and the broader community in need. Items can be dropped off Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at Hope Harbor’s Service Center at 615 W 1st Street. For those unable to donate during these hours, please call (308) 383-4634 to make alternative arrangements.

Together, we can bring hope to families and individuals in need.
