KEARNEY — Kearney Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Natalie Madsen as the new principal of Bryant Elementary School, effective for the 2025-2026 school year. Madsen, currently a social studies teacher at Sunrise Middle School, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student success to her new leadership role.
Superintendent Jason Mundorf expressed enthusiasm for these changes: “It only takes one conversation with Natalie Madsen to realize she is a passionate educator who exudes leadership. She has a heart for the success of all students, a drive for continuous school improvement, and the energy to lead the Bryant staff forward continuing their excellent results. Natalie has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to our students and staff at Sunrise Middle School. Her enthusiasm and vision for student success will be a tremendous asset to Bryant Elementary. We look forward to supporting her commitment to excellence and growth and the impact it will have at Bryant.”

Madsen has been a teacher at Sunrise Middle School since 2020. Before coming to Kearney, she worked at Waverly High School and Kearney High School (2012-2019). Madsen has her Education Specialist degree from Northwest Missouri State University, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Sciences from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Madsen has been actively involved in Kearney Public Schools, participating in NexGen/Ascend Program, Social Studies Curriculum Adoption Team, KPS Civics Committee, and the ICU Committee, as well as other leadership positions.
Madsen will succeed Dustin Mitchell, who will transfer to Central Elementary as principal in the fall of 2025. Mitchell’s leadership at Bryant Elementary has been marked by his commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. His upcoming transition to Central Elementary ensures continued excellence in leadership across the district.
