BROKEN BOW — A man was killed as the result of a UTV accident while trying to move cattle of a large grass fire that occurred in Custer County during the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office stated in a release that 40-year-old Chase Christen was involved in a rollover UTV accident on private property near Adams Land and Cattle East Lot.

Christen was attempting to help neighbors move cattle to safety ahead of the fire when the UTV rolled down an embankment, during which Christen was ejected.

Broken Bow Fire and Rescue personnel attempted life saving measures on scene. Christen was then transported to Melham Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident.
