Eight area wrestlers from Central Nebraska will compete for the NSAA Girls State Wrestling Titles tonight.
In Class A, there are four wrestlers in the finals. Kearney will be represented at 115 pounds by Carsyn McBride, who won in a 14-8 decidion over Mackenzie Olson of Waverly. She will take on Lincoln East’s Mileena Notaro for the state title.
Adams Central’s Kayden Sipp is one of two undefeated wrestlers from the area, as she will look to go 40-0 against Kyra Hains of Lincoln East for the state title at 140lbs. She won by fall over Kaylee Bedsole from Fremont to advance to the state title.
Grand Island is represented by Anyia Roberts and Fabi Cortez at 155lbs and 170lbs, respectively. Roberts won by decision over Rowyn Wiltgen of Millard South, and Cotrez won by decision over Gariane Levy of Omaha Benson. The GISH pair will go up against a pair of Westside wrestlers, with Roberts taking on Zoey Barber in her state title, and Cortez up against Addeline Graser.
Cozad’s Abby Negley will look to complete an undefeated season tonight aginst Alejandra Reyes of Johnson County Central in the Class B 105lbs championship match. Negley moved on to the championship match with a 6-1 against Payton Thiele of Louisville.
Wood River is in the B130 championship, as Alyssa Thomas pinned Braelyn Degenhardt of Thayer Central to move onto the state title, where she’ll go up against Jordyn Campbell of Yutan.
Rylee Kursave of Arcadia/Loup City, the school’s lone representative at state wrestling, can add her name to the Rebels record books tonight with a state title win against Louisville’s Catalina Jones in the Class B 170lbs championship. Kursave pinned Shae Jackson of West Holt to make it to the championship.
Broken Bow’s Ida Bumgarner rounds out the eight girls from Central Nebraska who are wrestling in the state title matches, pinning Leslie Garcia of GICC to advance to the B 190 state title match. She will take on Addison Arvdal of Sutherland in the state title match.
