GRAND ISLAND — Weather permitting, work will begin March 1 on US-81, from reference post 18.0 to reference post 19.0, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Constructors, Inc. of Lincoln is the contractor for this project. Work on US-81 will include replacing the southbound bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad, the southbound bridge over Dry Sandy Creek, concrete paving, guardrail, grading, and seeding. Traffic will be maintained by crossovers and head-to-head two-way traffic in the northbound lanes.
Work on US 136 at reference post 132.14 will include replacing the bridge over Dry Creek, guardrail, grading and seeding. Traffic will be one lane maintained with temporary stoplights and a twelve-foot width restriction. Work is scheduled to be complete in Nov. 2025.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
