KEARNEY — The Kearney Community Theatre will be presenting the show “Godspell,” in late February and early March.

“Based on the New Testament gospels, mostly St. Matthew, Godspell uses the parables and passion story of Jesus for an inventively theatrical and inter-active show about the formation of a community – and the demonstration of joy,” according to the Kearney Community Theatre (KCT).

“An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, shine as Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life in Godspell,” the KCT stated.

Godspell began as a project by drama students at Carnegie Mellon University and then moved to the off-off-Broadway theater La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in the East Village of Manhattan. The show was rescored for an off-Broadway production, which opened on May 17, 1971, and became a long-running success.

Show dates for Feb. 27-March 1 and March 6-8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, March 2 and March 9 at 2:30 p.m.
