Red Flag Warning issued for Thursday, March 13, (NWS Hastings, Courtesy)

HASTINGS — Critical fire weather danger has prompted a Red Flag Warning to be issued for the afternoon through early evening of Thursday, March 13.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning will go into effect from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and includes all their county warning area.

Wind speeds will be out of the south at 15-25 mph with gusts reaching near 30-35 mph. Relativity humidity will be as low as 12-22 percent and temperatures will be in the high 70s.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Red Flag Warnings are in place across much of the central United States, reaching from the Mexico border and up through northern South Dakota.
