AURORA — A Red Flag Warning has been issued for counties east of Highway 281 during the afternoon and evening of Monday, April 28.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The counties included in the warning are Polk, Hamilton, York, Clay, Fillmore, Nuckolls and Thayer.
Per NWS Hastings, winds will be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity values will be as low as 20 percent across the area.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
“The limiting factor for fire weather potential today will be the recent rainfall that much of the
area has received,” per NWS Hastings.
“Minimum humidity values for Tuesday across south central and central Nebraska will generally range from around 20 to 30 percent but wind speeds will only be around five to 10 mph.,” per NWS Hastings.
