GRAND ISLAND — A suspect with an active warrant and suspended license was arrested for driving under the influence after a hit and run accident during the evening of Wednesday, May 7.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 9:07 p.m., officers responded to a traffic hazard for a vehicle stalled on S. Blaine St. near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks with a heavy front-end damage and appeared to have just been in an accident.
At the same time, a hit and run accident had been called in around the same area at 1003 W. North Front St.
Officers made contact with the sole occupant and driver, who was confirmed to be Farhan Adan. While speaking with Adan, open containers of alcohol were observed within the vehicle.
Officers also noted that Adan had bloodshot and watery eyes, exhibited slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
According to the GIPD, Adan would refuse to perform a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, but did consent to a preliminary breath test. He would provide a failing sample.
A records check revealed that Adan had an active Buffalo County warrant for assault by strangulation and terroristic threats. He also had a suspended driver’s license in Kansas.
Adan would be arrested for driving under the influence – second offense, driving under suspension, possession of an open container, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, possession of an open container and the Buffalo County warrant.
