KEARNEY — Following torrential rainfall that fell during the evening of Monday, June 2, a Flood Advisory has been issued for several counites in south central Nebraska.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas could take place across Buffalo, Dawson and Sherman counties until 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

NWS Hastings noted that at 4 a.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated light rain continuing after the heaviest rain had fallen earlier in the evening.

“Much of the Advisory area has received one to three inches of rain. The previous rain combined with another half inch possible through early Tuesday morning will cause continued flooding of small streams and poor drainage areas for the next several hours,” per NWS Hastings.

The steams, creeks and drainage areas that could be impacted include Oak Creek, Beaver Creek, Plum Creek, Buffalo Creek, Sand Creek, Mud Creek, Turkey Creek, East Branch Turkey Creek, Dry Creek, Elm Creek, Clear Creek and Spring Creek.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” NWS Hastings states.
