Yanney Park in Kearney, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — Heritage Day at Yanney Park is upcoming on Saturday, June 7 with a full schedule of events throughout the day.

  • 9 a.m. – Sue Bush Memorial 5K Run/Walk, Kids Lake Loop, around one mile
  • 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Basic Self Defense at the Mike and Gail Yanney Pavilion. Join to learn some basic self-defense moves from the Kearney Quest Center.
  • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Botanical Garden Learning Stations. Enjoy walking around the botanical gardens while stopping to discover a new plant at one of the learning stations.
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Family Fishing Day at Rademacher Shelter. For all ages. Some fishing equipment is available to borrow.
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free Lunch at Rotary Shelter. By Kearney Optimist. Hot dog, chips and a treat served while supplies last.
  • 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. – Marina Opens.
  • 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. – Archery and Pellet Shooting, near the ERC Building. Put on by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
  • 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Board. Put on by Cabela’s and Kearney Whitewater Association.
  • 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Storybook Walk at Mitzi’s Pavilion. Enjoy a walk around the lake while reading an interactive children’s book and engaging in fun activities.
  • 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. – Disc Golf Challenge, north of Tower. Test your skills throwing a disc with Kearney Disc Golf Club. Visit the booth for competitions and prizes.
  • 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. – Bingo and Board Games, at Peterson Senior Activity Center. All ages are welcome.
  • 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Gaga Ball near Mitzi’s Pavilion. A fast paced, high-energy game played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better.
  • 4 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – Kids Inflatables and Games.
  • 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. – Food Fair at Peterson Senior Activity Center. Food trucks will be parked around the roundabout.
  • 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Jaden Schumacher and Hockett at Cope Amphitheater. Free Concert in the Park.
  • 8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. Judd Hoos at Cope Amphitheater. Free concert in the park.
  • 10 p.m. – Firework Finale – Weather permitting following the concert.
