GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island Area Farmers Market is excited to announce two impactful new programs, made possible through a partnership with the Center for Rural Affairs, that will bring fresh, local food to more members of the community while supporting area food banks.

The Healthy Food Voucher Program, running now through July 31, 2025, provides vouchers to individuals and families to purchase fresh produce, meat, eggs, honey, and other local products directly from market vendors. This initiative ensures that everyone in the Grand Island area-regardless of income-has the opportunity to access healthy, local food while supporting regional farmers and producers.

A second initiative, operating through the first week of August, focuses on reducing food waste and increasing food security. At the close of each market day, the Grand Island Area Farmers Market will purchase leftover meat, eggs, produce, and other items from vendors and donate them to local food banks and pantries. This program both supports market vendors and helps ensure that good food reaches those in need.

“These programs reflect our deep commitment to community well-being,” said Misty Schaecher, President of the Grand Island Area Farmers Market. “We’re grateful for the support of the Center for Rural Affairs and proud to make fresh, local food more accessible for everyone in the Grand Island area.”

The Grand Island Area Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through mid-October at 1607 S. Locust Street, on the Bosselman Enterprises Campus.

Community members are encouraged to attend, shop local, and support these important initiatives.
